What else you can do to improve the outside of your home.
With just a little elbow grease and possibly some blood, sweat and tears, your home’s exterior can be the envy of the neighborhood.
Ready to get started? Here are 5 small projects you can do to add significant value to your home’s exterior.
Pressure wash your home
If you’ve got half a day over the weekend, you can easily knock this project out. Homes that are brick or have darker-colored siding will get by without having to be deep cleaned too often, but if you’ve got a lighter-colored house you may need to pressure wash your home once every year or two.
The best time to pressure wash is to wait until after all the pollen has stopped falling. If you’ve never pressure washed your driveway and walkways, it might be time to clean that up, as well.
Replace outdated hardware and fixtures
You may have to call the electrician to tackle this one, but you’ll be amazed how quickly new hardware and fixtures can update your home. Consider updating your house numbers, too.
Add some landscaping
Did you know homes that are well-landscaped command between 5.5–12% more than homes with sparse landscaping? Mature landscape is not only pretty to look at, but also pays off significantly when it comes time to sell.
Even if you don’t have the green thumb or budget to hire a landscape architecture, you can still get by with a little effort. Start by adding some evergreen bushes to your front lawn, so that you’ll have color all year round. Then you can layer in perennials, accent trees and ground cover.
Check out locally-owned nurseries if you need some help setting up your flower beds, sometimes they hold how-to classes.
Paint your front door
If replacing your front door isn’t in the budget, consider painting it instead. Reds, blues and greens are popular options, but if you’re coming up short, check out these popular front door paint color ideas.
Add exterior lighting
The easiest and cheapest option when it comes to landscape lighting is to put in solar lights. Simply place them in the ground and let the sun do the hard work. Up-lighting lights up pathways at night and makes a dramatic impact to your curb appeal after dark.
